In honor of Data Privacy Week, we’re excited to announce the launch of our monthly Information Security & Privacy Office newsletter. Each month we’ll send you two practical tips on cybersecurity topics impacting our community. Below, we share important steps you can take to keep your personal information private and secure.

‌Boost Your Account Security with Advanced MFA Settings

‌Multi-factor authentication (MFA) keeps your data safe even if your password is compromised, but your MFA settings could leave you vulnerable to identify theft and other cyber threats if you aren’t using the most secure options.

Take Action: Update your DUO and other MFA settings to use push notifications or a security key/PIN code to access your systems and applications. These options offer the most effective security.

Know the Trade-offs Between Privacy and Convenience

‌When you download a new app or open a new account, you’ll often be asked for access to your personal information (location, contacts, and photos). Ask yourself: Is the service, app, or game worth the amount or type of personal data they want in return? Is the data requested even relevant for the app or service?

Take Action: Review your personal settings on commonly used apps to reduce the amount of information you share with these businesses.
