General Research Funds (GRF)

Purpose & Use of Funds

Resources are allotted to supplement divisional funds, providing eligible faculty up to $2,200/year for research, professional, or academic development support. These funds can be used to strengthen teaching practices and curriculum development. Funding must be expended within the fiscal year (July 1 – June 30) for use toward books, conferences, travel, and other expenses in accordance with the university's Finance & Business procedures and Parsons' Expenses & Travel Guide.

Full Time Faculty

General Research Funding (GRF) for regular full time faculty members (tenure, tenure-track, EE, EE-track, probationary, RTA, and term*) is provided by the Provost Office. Funding is automatically awarded at the start of the fiscal year (July 1). Full time faculty who start halfway through the fiscal year (January 1) automatically receive half of their eligible amount of GRF funding.

*"Term" faculty do not include fixed-term, visiting appointments, or post-docs.

Fixed Term Faculty

General Research Funding (GRF) for fixed term faculty members is provided by Parsons School of Design. Fixed term faculty are required to apply for this funding each year. Applications for both GRF and Student Research Assistant Funds (SRAF) open for fixed term faculty in late August each year.

Please reach out to parsonsops@newschool.edu with any questions or to check the balance of your current GRF.
