1105 - NPC Library Interlibrary Loan Policy

July 14, 2022

Eligibility

Any person who has an NPC Library borrower’s card may request interlibrary loan (ILL) materials.

Types of Materials

Interlibrary loans are used for materials not owned by NPC Library. It is recommended that patrons consult with library staff prior to requesting this service. Accurate and complete bibliographic information is essential in processing requests. We do not borrow items outside the OCLC system. Interlibrary loan requests can take one to four weeks for delivery. Staff may be able to find alternative sources at NPC. Most printed materials may be requested. Many libraries do not lend reference, rare books, materials in great demand, newly released items, complete issues of periodicals, software, audio or video items, theses, and dissertations. We do not borrow or loan internationally. We do not borrow genealogy materials.

Fees

  • NPC Library does not charge for ILL requests.

  • Students, faculty, and staff are limited to five ILL items at one time.

  • Community Members are limited to three ILL items at one time.

  • NPC Library does not borrow from lending libraries that charge a fee to lend.

  • Borrowers are responsible for replacement cost and fees of unreturned and damaged ILL items.

  • Materials will not be loaned within one year of publication.

  • Individual campus/center libraries may decide to not lend if item has been cataloged within one year.

Borrowing:

  • Loan periods are set by the institution lending the materials. Loans are normally one to four weeks.

  • Late items may affect our ability to borrow from other institutions.

  • Requests for renewals should be made at least three days before the due date. The lending library may indicate on shipping material that the item may or may not be renewed. Patrons will be advised of renewal policies at the time of checkout.
