Drafting - How to draft for existing AV Systems
Use the flow chart below to determine the best approach for how to draft for an existing AV system.
Drafting guidelines for updating existing drawing packages
Here are some additional guidelines for systems that L3AV installed and that we have the CAD drawings for.
- Locate the existing project folder(s) in the Integration Past Projects folder on Sharepoint.
- Copy the most recent past project folder and paste it into the Dropbox-->Projects Active folder. Rename the folder with the new project number and description.
- There may be some cases where the most recent past project folder doesn't capture the full scope of the existing system (ie. only the part of the system that was being updated is represented). If you come across one of these cases, then look for the most recent past project folder that represents the entire system design and copy that instead. You may then need to incorporate the changes/additions from the more recent past project designs to ensure that you have the current system design represented before starting any new work.
- Sheet Index Instructions
- Open the Sheet Index master and delete the data in all of the Version columns except for the As Built column.
- Copy/Cut the info from the As Built column and move it over to the 1st column (normally the 'For Review' column) and assign it version '0'. Also add the original project number in front of as-built so that we can easily reference it if needed.
- In the next column you will start recording your versioning like you normally would. So the column to the right of the relocated 'As Built' column will be your 'For Review' column and be version '-' and the column to the right of that will be your 'For Construction' column and will be version '1'.
- Once you are done making changes to existing pages and adding any new ones, go back to the Sheet Index master and indicate which pages have changes on them by using the revision triangle.
- Add the new project number in front of all new version columns.
- See examples of an existing past project sheet index and the updated sheet index below.

- Updating existing pages
- Make sure to revcloud all changes to the existing drawings and attach the '1' delta symbol to each revcloud so that the field technicians can easily locate the changes on the page. See examples below .
Drafting guidelines for updating As-Builts and creating Miro sketches
- Try to include as much relevant information as possible on facility drawings. While we aren't providing a full CAD package, our installers and other trades still need to know where to locate equipment and infrastructure.
- Locate equipment on plan drawings, and add SYS-IDs if this will help the install team place the equipment
- Locate power and data locations and indicate install height, circuit info (15A or 20A, dedicated circuit required, etc), number of drops, etc.
- Call out any backing needs for equipment as well as the need for conduits, raceway, floorboxes, etc.
- If providing one-line system sketches, include SYS-IDs and cable labels for all equipment.
- Include any relevant information that would normally appear on CAD sig flows (how the device is powered, EDID info, connector details, etc.)
