Reporting Scam Emails and Phishing Attempts
Steps for Reporting Scam and Phishing Attempts.
- If you are unsure if an email is a scam or a phishing please report it and let Compusolve assess if it is a threat. If it is not a threat they will get back to you and let you know.
- DO NOT forward the email to anyone else. Forwarding can lead to other people opening the malicious email.
- How to report in the Outlook Web Email App
a. When the email is open click on the bock with the four circles.
b. From the drop down menu click the "Phish Alert button". Follow the steps to report it as a phishing attempt. The email will then disappear from your inbox and be sent to Compusolve.
- How to Report in the Outlook Desktop App
a. click the ellipses (the three dots on the top menu bar in your email) and click to report it as phishing. The email will then disappear from your email and be sent to Compusolve.
By reporting spam and phishing attempts, you contribute to improving the filtering system and help protect yourself and others from potential security threats. Keep in mind that the specific options and menu placements might vary slightly based on the version of Outlook you are using.
Here's how the two options differ:
Phish Alert Report: with the CSOLVE logo sends a copy of the email to our team and generates a service ticket. A technician then reviews the report and actions it appropriately. This is better than the user trying to simply forward us a copy of the email as our filter may block us from receiving.
Report Message: This is part of the Microsoft Defender solution that we use for email security and filtering. Reporting a message as Phishing, Junk, or Not Junk depending on the content will send a copy of the email to Microsoft's team for evaluation and will improve the filtering solution.
