How-to Guide for Display and Audio Settings using Surface Pro
A standard classroom setup with a supplied Surface Pro device for the teaching staff, would have a mounted TV, desk monitor, dock and a document camera deployed.
Computer peripherals like mouse and keyboard are plugged into the docking station, as well as the connection to your desk monitor and TV, and a wired network connection.
Once the docking cable is attached onto the side of your Surface, there should be a light indicating it is currently docked. It enables your Surface to communicate with all those that are plugged into the docking station. Check power source if it is not lit on, or undock then dock back in, making sure it is firmly set.
This also charges your devices and switches the wireless connectivity to being on wired network.
At this state, you should get multiple audio and visual settings available.
Projection mode: (Extended or Duplicate)
- To change/modify display settings, right click on your desktop screen and select Display Settings. Alternatively, you may use the Charm/Windows icon then type or go to Settings -> Display.

You should see screens available for you to use. Number 1 is your Surface pro by default.
If the other screens are not getting detected, either you are not dock properly or the TV and monitor are/or not turned on yet. Try to reseat (undock/dock) the cable.
- Depending on your preference, select the screen you want to mirror/duplicate to the other, then go to the Multiple displays setting (e.g. Select 2 then choose from the drop-down menu)
- You may also change/select your main display: Once screen is selected, tick the box that says Make this my main display. Normally it would be #1 which is your Surface Pro, but some prefer the desk monitor.
