Service Provider Roles
This card provides a list of Service Provider Roles and descriptions to assist with selecting the most accurate role based on the service or work being performed. These roles help ensure consistency when classifying service providers across the University. See Service Provider Policy and Engagement Procedure for additional information.
Service Provider Roles | Description |
Architect | Provides architectural design, planning, and oversight for construction, renovation, or spatial projects. |
Architect (Information or Data) | Designs and structures information systems or data architecture to ensure efficient organization, storage, and accessibility. |
Artist Manager or Agency Representative | Represents artists or performers in contract negotiations, scheduling, and coordination of events or engagements. |
Caterer | Provides food, beverages, and catering services for events held on or off TNS property. |
Choreographer Consultant | Designs and directs dance or movement sequences for performances, productions, or events. |
Communications Consultant | Develops communication strategies, messaging, and materials to support internal or external initiatives. |
Copywriter or Copy Editor | Creates or edits written content for clarity, accuracy, and style consistency, typically for marketing or communications purposes such as website copy, newsletters, or event and campaign materials. |
Curriculum Developer or Instructional Designer | Designs and develops academic or training materials, courses, and instructional content. |
Data Analyst or Processer | Analyzes, processes, or interprets data to support research, reporting, or operational needs. |
DJ | Provides curated music and entertainment services for University events. |
Editor or Editorial Consultant | Reviews, revises, and enhances written materials for clarity, structure, and consistency in tone and messaging, often for academic or institutional use such as research papers, grant proposals, or University publications. |
Environmental Consultant | Evaluates environmental risks and provides guidance on compliance, sustainability, and best practices. |
Event Coordinator or Event Manager | Plans, organizes, and manages logistics for University events, including scheduling and on-site coordination. |
Executive Coaching | Offers leadership development, mentoring, and performance coaching for faculty, staff, or administrators. |
General Construction or Contractor | Provides construction, renovation, or repair services, including project management and site coordination. |
Grant Writer | Researches funding opportunities and prepares proposals or grant applications to secure financial support. |
Graphic Designer or Illustrator | Creates visual content, including graphics, illustrations, or design layouts for University publications, events, or digital platforms. Only permitted if M&C cannot provide the requested service. |
Guest Lecturer | Delivers academic instruction, lectures, or presentations on a short-term or special-topic basis. |
Instrument Tuning or Repair Servicer | Provides maintenance, repair, and tuning services for musical instruments. |
International Program Coordinator | Assists with the design, organization, or administration of international or study-abroad programs. |
Interpreter or Transcriber | Delivers interpretation, captioning, or transcription services to make audio or video content accessible and accurately documented (e.g. ASL interpretation, live language translation, CART transcription). |
Journalist (Freelance) | Produces articles, stories, or interviews for University publications or media outlets on a freelance basis. |
Lighting Designer | Plans, designs, and implements lighting for performances, events, or exhibitions to achieve desired visual effects. |
Livestreamer | Operates live video streaming services for events, lectures, or performances. |
Market Researcher | Conducts research, surveys, and analysis to provide insights into markets, trends, or audience behaviors. |
Marketing or Social Media Consultant | Develops and executes marketing and social media strategies to promote programs, events, or initiatives. Only permitted if M&C cannot provide the requested service. |
Model | Participates in photoshoots, events, or promotional campaigns as a subject. Excludes Fit and Drawing models for Parsons academic courses. |
Mover or Delivery Service | Provides packing, transportation, and delivery services. Includes specialty movers, such as for art or instruments. |
Musician | Performs live or recorded music at University events, programs, or productions. |
Peer Reviewer | Provides expert review and evaluation of academic, research, or professional work prior to publication or presentation. |
Performer | Delivers live artistic, theatrical, or cultural performances at University events. |
Photographer | Provides professional photography services for events, portraits, publications, or promotional use. Only permitted if M&C cannot provide the requested service. |
Podcast Producer | Manages planning, recording, editing, and publishing of podcasts for University programs or initiatives. |
Production Crew or Stagehand | Provides technical setup, stage support, and assistance during events, performances, or productions. |
Production Manager | Oversees production schedules, resources, and logistics to ensure smooth execution of performances or events. |
Proofreader | Reviews written material for spelling, grammar, and formatting accuracy. |
Public Relations | Provides communication strategies, media outreach, or reputation management services. |
Recruiter or Hiring Consultant | Supports recruitment efforts by sourcing, screening, and coordinating candidates for open positions or programs. Only permitted if HR cannot provide the requested service. |
Researcher (Short-Term) | Conducts research on a defined project or assignment for a limited duration. Serves in an advisory or consulting capacity with a University faculty member or employee in a "collaboration-between-equals" type of arrangement. Does not apply to those who will be supervised or work under the direction of a University faculty member or employee. |
Scenic, Props, or Set Fabricator | Builds, fabricates, or assembles scenic elements, props, or sets for productions, exhibits, or performances. |
Sound Designer or Audio Engineer | Creates, edits, or balances audio for events, productions, or media projects. |
Speaker, Presenter, Judge or Panelist | Participates in University programs by sharing expertise, delivering talks, judging competitions, or serving on panels. |
Stage Manager | Coordinates all aspects of a live performance or production. |
Translator | Provides written translation of documents or materials between languages. |
UX or UI Designer | Designs user interfaces and optimizes user experiences for websites, applications, or digital platforms. |
Video Editor or Producer | Edits or produces video content for University events, promotions, or academic use. |
Videographer | Captures and produces video recordings of events, lectures, or performances. |
Voice-Over Artist or Narrator | Provides voice recordings for videos, presentations, or digital content. |
Web Developer | Designs, builds, or maintains websites and web-based applications. Only permitted if M&C cannot provide the requested service. |
Workshop Facilitator or Trainer | Leads training sessions, workshops, or learning programs to develop specific skills or knowledge areas. |
