Exchange - Server URL (EWS URL)

Normally connecting to an exchange calendar is possible using only the Exchange Email Address and Exchange Password. In some cases it may also be necessary to include the Exchange server URL in order to complete the connection setup.

Exchange Server URL Format

The URL should always be entered in the following format https://mail.example.com/ews/exchange.asmx where "mail.example.com" is replaced with the customer's unique server information. This URL is different than the URL they normally use to access their email in the browser.

You can test the URL by navigating to it in the browser. If you reach a login screen it is likely the correct URL. If you get an error such as "This site can't be reached" or "Not found" then the URL is likely incorrect.

NOTE: Alternatively, it can be possible to use the formats "mail.example.com" or "https://mail.example.com/owa" but using the EWS URL is the best way to confirm their correct server address (in case their Exchange Admin has turned auto-detection off).

Alternate URL patterns

If you notice either of the following patterns in the customer's server URL, these are quite meaningful:

  • outlook.office365.com - If the server URL contains this information, the customer will need to connect to the calendar via an Office 365 connection rather than via an Exchange connection
  • aws - If the server URL contains this information, then they’re using Amazon Work Spaces, which Calendly cannot connect to because their endpoint acts as Exchange 2007
