Updating Faculty Bio - Instructions for Faculty

  • Faculty will be able to edit their bios themselves.
  • There is a designated school level admin account, which has access to all bios in the system.
  • Whoever has admin privileges will have greater permissions than individual faculty members to edit fields.

Logging In

Go to: - Faculty Login or the Admin Faculty Login

  • A faculty member can log in with their New School SSO login and password, the same used to login to my.newschool.edu
  • Administrative personnel (who have never been faculty) will not be able to log in with their own credentials, (or the divisional admin credentials), they will be able to log in using a custom username and password set provided by Marketing and Communications. Please contact batec@newschool.edu for this login and password.
  • Only administrators can change the “alternate administrative and academic titles” fields for FT Faculty. Part-time faculty titles cannot be changed due to union rules at this time.

Photos

  • Faculty can override their existing Card Services ID photos, but not via the faculty manager tool. This method is recommended as this also updates the university Directory Image as well.
  • A new headshot-style photo can be submitted to card services (via a link on the bio form).
  • Please make sure the photo is 800 x 800 px and is a headshot. Here's an example of just such a (professionally shot)
  • Admins do have the ability to upload a custom bio image on behalf of faculty. See image tips and tricks for more information.

Bios

  • The bios can be edited by both faculty and admins alike. The data can be formatted, links added etc using the rich text editor found in the system.
  • Note: a faculty member’s unique URL ID is evident when one looks at their profile; can be used to copy and paste into a URL.
  • If a faculty member is opting out of the directory, her bio will not appear. (She will have the opportunity to opt back in.)
  • Current courses will display and will link to the University Course Catalog.
  • Besides photos, contact information, name, title and current courses are all data that won't be directly changeable via the directory interface, and will have to go through Card Services.
  • Again, if a faculty member is opting out of the directory, her bio will not appear.
  • Bios will have more elegant URLs, reflecting the faculty member's name.
  • Faculty will not be able to upload documents or PDFs to their bios, however, they will be able to link to a Google document using the LINK tool (in the editor toolbar on the Faculty Manager).

FAQ’s

A Faculty members bio Is not displaying within the Faculty Bio System for Editing

If a faculty member is not actively teaching in one or any of the following semesters.

  • Current Semester
  • 2 past semester
  • 2 future semesters

Then their faculty detail page and their Faculty Bio access to the Faculty Bio manager and Admin level access will be removed. Once they are listed as teaching within one of the above mentioned semesters, their pages and access to their previous bio information will be restored.

You must have Author or Collection Owner permission to create Guru Cards. Contact your team's Guru admins to use this template.
