Group Settings for a Logging Session

Group settings in a logging session provide the user with some very useful capabilities.

Group Name

The name given to this group of tags.

Computer

The name of the computer where the OPC server is located. Leave the field blank when the OPC Server is on the same computer as the logger.

Update Rate

The Update Rate in seconds for the group in the specified OPC Server. Data is never returned from the OPC server faster than the update rate. Example time format:
+ sss(seconds)
+ sss.fff (seconds.fractional seconds)
+ dd.hh:mm:ss.fff (days.hours:minutes:seconds.fractional seconds)
+ hh:mm (hours:minutes)
+ dd.hh:mm(days.hours:minutes)

OPC Server

Pressing the "..." ellipsis next to this field displays a list of available OPC Servers on the computer listed in the 'Computer' field directly above the 'OPC Server' field
+ Canary Labs Simulated Data Server - The simulated mini--OPC Server generates simulated data for general testing and evaluation purposes.

OPC Deadband

The OPC Server deadbanding is defined as a percent deadbanding and covers the entire group level. The definition of the OPC Server deadbanding can be found in the OPC 2.0 specification in section 4.5.1.6. Read the OPC DA Deadbanding article to learn more.

Normalization Time

The normalization time in seconds for all trends in a 'Group'. The Canary Logger rounds the incoming timestamp from the OPC server to the specified number of milliseconds. Example time formats:
+ sss ( seconds)
+ sss.fff (seconds.fractional seconds)
+ dd.hh:mm:ss
+ hh:mm (hours:minutes)
+dd:hh:mm (days.hours:minutes)

Trigger Item ID

The OPC server ItemID for the item whose value is used by the Trigger Expression. Denoted by 'x' in the trigger expression.

Trigger Expression

Allows the user to log tags based on the value of another tag, using a configurable expression. To learn how to set-up the Trigger ItemID and Trigger Expression read the article.
