Configure your Chromebook to open Microsoft Word Files using the Microsoft 365 Chrome Extension

This is Guru card shows you how to setup your Chromebook to open Microsoft word files (.docx) by default using this Microsoft 365 Chrome extension for Chromebooks in 2 steps.

  1. First save a file as .docx from Google Docs (File>Download>Microsoft Word (.docx)) to your Downloads folder: image.png
  2. Locate and select it in your "My files > Downloads" and select Open>Change Default and select Microsoft 365 as default:Screenshot_2023-02-06_9.42.27_AM.png
  3. You should now verify that Microsoft 365 (default) is bolded (set as default), by clicking on Open again. If you see Microsoft 365 (default) bolded, you are configured correctly.

Note: You only have to do this once, Any Microsoft word file that you open in the future saved from Google Docs or Word on your Chromebook will automatically use this extension by default.
