Bell Schedules in PowerSchool
Bell Schedules in PowerSchool define the start and end times of blocks throughout the day. They are used to determine both how classes will show up in student timetables, and also have some effects on how attendance is taken and recorded.
You can have multiple Bell Schedules, but only one can be assigned to each calendar day. To examine your Bell Schedules, please follow the instructions below:
- Login to the PowerSchool admin portal: https://ecssd.powerschool.com/admin
- Select the school and school year you wish to check in the top right of your screen.
- On the left side of your screen select 'School Management'.
- On the page that opens, go to the 'Scheduling' heading, and select 'Bell Schedules'.
- It is likely that you will only have one schedule, called 'Regular Day'. Click 'Edit Schedule' to see the start and end times.
How should a Bell Schedule be configured?
Inside the Bell Schedule, you should see all of the divisions of time that determine student attendance throughout the day. For instance, a high school with four 82 minute blocks that has period attendance might look like the image below:
Whereas a mixed elementary/junior high that takes attendance twice per day for elementary students, and uses period attendance for junior high, might look like the image below:
As you can see in the second image, it is possible to have attendance periods that overlap for different groups of students.
