How To assist Marketing Partners with payment setup
Purpose
This How To provides guidance for the GiddyUp Traffic Team SDRs and AMs to assist Marketing Partner (MP) with setting up their billing information.
Regardless of how an MP is paid, no payment can be issued until they provide proper documentation to comply with U.S. Department of Homeland Security and Internal Revenue Service (IRS) regulations.
Scope
This How To covers proper MP setup to ensure MPs are payable in both Everflow and Tipalti to ensure timely and successful commission payment.
Responsibilities and Authorities
The Traffic Team SDRs and AMs are responsible for working with their MPs and providing them with the assistance they need to ensure proper billing setup in order for MPs to get paid. The Traffic team SDRs and AMs should reach out to Everflow support or Tipalti support directly if MPs questions arise.
How To assist MP with setup
1/ MPs should have ONLY 1 active account in Everflow & Tipalti.
2/ Tipalti is the only payment option to Marketing Partners.
In Everflow under Manager -> type MP ID# -> under Billing -> Payment method MUST BE TIPALTI.
3/ Invoices are automatically generated weekly and are visible to MPs, in Everflow. However, occasionally some MPs may elect to be paid monthly in which case their invoice would be generated and paid at the beginning of the following month.
4/ MP must make sure that they enter their banking information very carefully to become payable in Tipalti, otherwise payment will be rejected (if payment is rejected, it may take a while before such issues get researched and corrected, and MP will incur return fees).
Steps for marketing partner to update their bank information in Tipalti:
- Log into Everflow and click on "company settings" and "Billing"
- Click on the 3 dots on the top far right and click on "input Tipaliti Billing Informations"
- Input bank information in the corresponding section and Save.
It is recommended that MPs contact their bank to understand how to get properly set up to receive USD funds from the USA.
5/ For MPs Outside the US, if they select wire as the payment option it requires a Swift number and Account number.
The following link provides a list of supported payment methods for each country on the Tipalti Solution with funding currency USD:
6/ As part of payment set up in Tipalti, MP must complete IRS form:
- MP operating in the United States: form W-9 in the US. No information should be entered on line 2 of W-9. If it has any information there, it will fail TIN validation.W-9
- MP operating outside of the United States:
- Form W-8BEN for non-US sole proprietors and individuals
- form W-8 BEN-E W-8BEN-E for non-US entities, like corporations or organizations
7/ Additionally, to become "payable", a MP company or individual (if they are not a company) identification documents are required and must be uploaded in Tipalti, have to match the payee's information, and be in the same name, to comply with banking regulations.
8/ Per our AML (Anti-Money Laundering) policy, we can only pay into bank accounts owned by the payees directly. The usage of 3rd party wallet/banking services, like Revolut, TransferWise, or similar, breach Tipalti policy and therefore are not supported.
9/ Country of the bank needs to match the country of business. If not, Finance will need to change the setting in Tipalti (contact: accounting@giddyup.io).
11/ MP should contact support@tipalti.com with questions about payment setup.
12/ Everflow does not generate invoices below $50. Once a partners' total due is more than $50 and the partner did not elect wire as payment method (see #13 below), then an invoice will be automatically created on Monday for the previous unpaid periods.
13/ There is a $1000 threshold for wire payments to be issued (due to wire cost for both MP & GU). Wire payments below that threshold are accumulated until the $1000 threshold is hit. Then an invoice is created and paid.
14/ You can add multiple users to a Partners account where they can go in and view invoices. To do this, you would go to Partners>Manage>Click on the Partner>Users tab>Add User. This needs to be added by GiddyUp.

Foreign partner is not understanding why Tipalti is requiring documentation from them in order to be payable:
Documentation is required for OFAC/Compliance and security purposes, to ensure that all our payees are legitimate and with real identification.
The documentation is a general bank requirement to comply with U.S. Department of Homeland Security and Internal Revenue Service (IRS) regulations.
Tax treaties between US & foreign countries:
Per IRS, "The United States has bilateral income tax treaties, also known as “conventions,” with a number of foreign countries under which residents (sometimes limited to citizens) of those countries are taxed at a reduced rate or are exempt from U.S. income taxes on certain income received from within the United States. Income that is exempt under a treaty is not subject to withholding at source".
A partner is in a non-treaty country, they may want to look into registering in one of the countries that does have a tax treaty with the United States of America. We suggest you consult with your local tax adviser as well. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1kE8L2v17z6_J3AXabHADIQmbHjlP40Lx/view?usp=sharing
