Splash pre-publish checklist

Below are some common errors made on their Splash event or hub pages. Before publishing your page, please double-check these settings.

have you configured the MOBILE AND PHONE VIEWS OF YOUR PAGE?

When you are designing your Splash page, you are in 'desktop' view. Be sure to also edit the mobile and phone views (see image below on how to access these). Any changes you make to each device view does not affect the other.

Is it an Online or hybrid event?

  1. Add "ONLINE | " or "HYBRID | " at the start of your event title
  2. Add the Zoom invite to your Confirmation (Email), and in Settings > Site Metadata > Calendar Attachment Description.

Is it an INTERNAL EVENT MEANT ONLY for the TNS COMMUNITY?

  1. Add "@newschool.edu" to the Email Domain Restriction field in Settings. Press 'Return' to save the text.
  2. Add a note in the event description to indicate that this is open only to the TNS community, or to certain members of the TNS community.
  3. Edit your RSVP form template to either "Internal Event RSVP Form" or "Internal Hybrid Event RSVP Form" - this form has more direct and fewer questions than our generic RSVP form.

have you PUBLISHed TO THE EVENTS CALENDAR?

Be sure to add your event to the Events Calendar regardless of whether it's open only to the TNS community or the general public because the Events Calendar is a frequented resource for both audiences.

  1. To add your event to the Events Calendar, head to Settings > In these Hubs > Add to Hub > search for and select "Published Events".
  2. Double-check that your event is appearing on the Events Calendar. Bear in mind that it can sometimes take a few moments for the event to populate.
  3. If your event isn't appearing on the Events Calendar, follow the steps outlined on this Guru card: Troubleshooting Splash: Event not appearing, or appearing incorrectly, on Events Calendar.

NOTE: There may be some events which you may not want to add to the Events Calendar, and these include invite-only events, vendor registration forms, and so on.

Have you double-checked your Settings Page?

  1. Vanity URL: Be sure to edit the Vanity URL - keep it short and legible. Remember to promote the event by sharing the Vanity URL (event.newschool.edu/), not the Event URL (splashthat.com).
  2. Date and Time: Add an end date and time so your event displays on the Events Calendar for its full duration.
  3. Event Host: Add your department, program name, college or center/institute to this field. The ‘Sender’ of Splash emails will draw from the data in this field.
  4. Tags: Copy and paste from this list of university-wide tags. If you’re using your own tags, keep it consistent. Remember to hit “Enter” to save the text in the field.
  5. Event Audience: If your event is aimed to the General Public, just select that audience type, and none of the others.

Is your event part of a series?

  1. Be sure to cross-reference and link to the other event pages within your event description.
  2. You may want to create a hub for the series if there are multiple events. A Splash hub is essentially a landing page that makes multiple events discoverable. To create a hub, search for the word "hub" when creating a new page from a pre-existing Splash template.

Did you check the formatting for your share card?

A Share Card is the displayed graphic when you share your event URL on social channels. Follow these Splash instructions on editing your Share Card.

Have you scheduled pre-event email reminders?

Pre-event email reminders sent to your RSVP list will have a positive impact on your attendance rates. These can be scheduled for 1 hour or 1 day before your event starts.

A number of our existing templates have Automatically Scheduled Event Reminder Emails, and the Splash Help Center has a lot of articles that pertain to setting up emails.

NOTE: If the template you're using has an automatically-scheduled event reminder email, double-check the text before publishing your page.

Have you cleaned your mailing list TO PREVENT BOUNCES?

As you get ready to send an email from Splash, you may see that there are "Invalid Emails" found in your guest list. Invalid emails will result in bounces, and there may be several reasons for this. Follow this Splash Support article on how to clean up your guest mailing list.
