Duo Security Setup
overview
Duo is used to enable a secure Two Factor Authentication setup for use with your VPN. When logging into your VPN, a prompt will be sent to your mobile device. This notification on your device is the second factor that keeps your account secure.
The following setup was completed using an iPhone - it will be similar on an Android, with slight modifications if you complete this on your Desktop. It is easiest to do from your mobile device.
Steps
- You will recieve an Email from Duo to your work email to setup the account. Click the link to enrol your phone.
- This will open your browser. Tap through the series of three welcome screens:
- On the following screen, select Duo Mobile as your option to login with Duo.
- You will first need to verify your phone number with Duo. Work through the several steps to enter your mobile number and then enter the code that Duo sends to you via SMS. Below is a few of the screens you will see.
- Once completed, Duo will ask you to download the app from the App Store or Google Play. Tap on the link for your type of device to download the correct App.
- This is what the download screen looks like on iPhone. It will be different on Android.
- Once the app is download and on your home screen, return to your browser app where you had the following screen. On iPhone this is likely Safari. Tap Next
- Tap Continue to open Duo Mobile, and on iPhone tap Open again to confirm you want to open the App. On Android the extra confirmation may or may not appear.
- Duo will open and prompt you to accept notifications. It's important that you allow notifications or else you will not be able to receive the push notifications and authorize your login. You can then click the blue next to get the Name Account Screen.
- Name your Account within the KLM Organization. We recommend naming it your first and last name.
- Congrats! Your account is all setup and you can walk through the practice screens. You can now use the VPN to connect. Remember, if you ever upgrade or wipe your phone, you will need to contact IT who can remove your old phone and send a new activation link for you to set this up on your new phone.
