How to enable Zoom and Slack Screen Share/ Recording

When you first sign in to a new laptop and attempt to screen share with Zoom or Slack, you will need to enable the Screen Recording feature in System Settings - Security and Privacy, as prompted by Zoom or Slack.

New hires: we recommend you change these settings before your first zoom meeting and before your first need for screen recording in Slack.

To prompt Zoom to enable screen share: After you sign in to the Zoom app via SSO/ Okta, start a New Meeting.

To start a screen share, click on screen share at the bottom bar of the meeting

You should then see the options to pick which part of the screen you want to screen share. For now, pick anything and click on "share" in the bottom right corner because we need to enable the setting to allow Zoom to screen share.

After clicking on share, a new prompt will open, requesting you to grant Zoom access to screen share. Click on "Open System Settings"

It will automatically open to Privacy and Security, otherwise open the System Settings app, scroll down to Privacy and Security on the left side, click Screen Recording on the right side, toggle zoom on here:

Once you check the box/ toggle it on to enable zoom.us, another prompt will pop up asking you to Quit and Reopen Zoom in order to fully enable Zoom screen share. Click on that or quit Zoom manually.

It will take you back to zoom and prompt you to leave. Click on "Leave Meeting"

Zoom will quit and after that you will need to launch zoom again and sign back in via SSO/ Okta, depending on what the desk setup instructions were. After that you should be able to launch the meeting you were in and start a screen share with Zoom by clicking on the "screen share" at the Zoom bar.

If you see this prompt, you can ignore it. Just click on "Open System Settings" and then close out the System Settings window.
