How to Dismiss an Expired Deferred Disposition Case
This document is designed to walk you through how to dismiss a case after the defendant has competed their deferred disposition period and has completed any additionally order items.
You will need access to the Dismiss Expired Deferrals menu option.
From the Main Court menu select Transactions – Dismiss Expired Deferrals.
Select – Select Cases to populate deferral cases with expired deferral dates .
The screen will check all cases that are paid in full. If a case still has a balance due, you will see Not Paid in the Status column.
Select Export to send the list populated to an excel spreadsheet.
Each status “blank” case will need to be reviewed to determine if the case is ready to be dismissed.
Select the white box to the left of the Select column to display the context menu.
Transfer Bond: This will move the money paid to the Deferral Bond Fee account to the Deferral Expense Fee
account but will not dismiss the case.
Work With Case: Opens the case dashboard to review the details of the case and update any item(s) needed.
If a case has other judged items due (DSC proof, community service proof) or should not be dismissed, update the next action from Deferred Pending to another next action code or set the case on a show cause docket to remove the case from the Expired Deferral list.
Note: This list is populated based on the next action Deferral Pending.
Select Select Cases again to remove cases that the next action has been updated.
Select Dismiss when all the cases selected on the screen are ready to be dismissed for completion of deferred.
When the cases have all been processed the screen will close.
You will see the following transactions in the Transaction Description on each case.
FAQs
Q: I don’t see a case that needs to be dismissed on the list?
A: Update the next action date on the case to Deferred Pending.
Q: Where do I find a list of the cases that were dismissed via this screen?
A: Go to Reports – Dispositions – Judgments Rendered. Select the date the cases were dismissed. Select Judgment
type Dismissed Deferred. Select Build. This will be the cases that were dismissed.
Q: How does the Judge sign a Dismissal Judgment for the cases that were dismissed?
A: Go to E-Signatures – Authorize Judgments to see the cases that have had a judgment entered. You will need to
verify that a judgment document has been set up associated with Judgement type Dismissed Deferred. See How to
