SCHOOL AIMS

RATIONALE

DBIS aims to take full advantage of the educational opportunities that the Internet and new technologies afford whilst providing guidance to students and safeguarding against unacceptable activities and materials.

PURPOSES

This Acceptable Use Policy is provided to ensure that our technology resources and services are used in a manner appropriate to a school setting and in keeping with our core values, mission and aims.

GUIDELINES

DBIS requires all students to use our technology resources and services in a manner appropriate to a school setting and in keeping with our core values, mission and aims. This document details the expected conduct in the following areas of Learning Technologies:

  1. Data
  2. Electronic Communications
  3. Online Services
  4. Artificial Intelligence (AI)
  5. Software
  6. Computer Hardware
  7. School Network





Please note that all activity conducted on school-owned computer systems is subject to monitoring. This includes but is not limited to, internet browsing, application usage, and file access.

Teachers and IT staff may remotely view computer screens and activity as necessary for the purpose of education, ensuring appropriate use, maintaining system security, and providing technical support.

DATA

All DBIS Students are expected to:

  • Keep personal information secure and confidential.
  • Ensure data is regularly backed up.
  • Keep passwords private and robust.
  • Not take or distribute pictures or videos of students or staff without their permission.
  • Report inappropriate content immediately.


ELECTRONIC COMMUNICATIONS

All DBIS students are expected to:

  • Show respect for themselves and others when communicating through tools including but not limited to email, text, collaboration tools and social media platforms.
  • Report inappropriate communication immediately.


ONLINE SERVICES

All DBIS students are expected to:

  • Only use online services in lessons when directed by teachers.
  • Only use licensed online services on any device brought into school.
  • Agree only to access age-appropriate online services.
  • Report the use of inappropriate online services.

ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE (AI)

All DBIS students are expected to:

  • Understand when it is appropriate to use AI for schoolwork.
  • Seek permission to produce any content other than text using AI.
  • Not to share personal or sensitive school information with AI tools which have not been approved by the school.
  • Save prompts used and the AI's response to ensure transparency and fairness.
  • Not use AI to cheat, plagiarise, impersonate, or generate harmful or offensive content.
  • Not use AI to generate content that is harmful, offensive, or inappropriate for the school environment.

SOFTWARE

All DBIS students will:

  • Not download or install any software or apps onto school-owned computers or classroom iPads or Chromebooks unless directed by a teacher.
  • Only use licensed software on any device brought into school.
  • Agree only to access age-appropriate apps and software typically vetted by staff, including those requiring third-party access to Google accounts.
  • Report inappropriate use of apps or software.

STUDENT RESPONSIBILITIES WHEN USING DEVICES

All DBIS students will:

  • Take reasonable care that there is no damage to or loss of any equipment.
  • Log out or lock the computer when leaving the machine unattended for any period of time.
  • Keep the original settings or configuration of school-owned computers.
  • Not take food or drink near school computers or in the computer suites.
  • Book out school-owned laptops, and on their return, ensure they are logged out.
  • Only bring into school personal laptops after permission has been sought and granted by the relevant member of staff (and only after signing the BYOD Agreement).
  • Not use mobile phones during school hours and should ensure the phone is turned off for the duration of the school day.
  • Ensure that any data held on the local drive of mobile devices and computers is regularly backed up.

SCHOOL NETWORK

All DBIS students will:

  • Support using Internet content filtering as protection from objectionable or controversial matters accessible via the Internet.
  • Use the internal wireless network to connect to the internet at school from any school-owned wireless device.
  • Students shall make no attempts to circumvent the school’s network security and/or filtering policies.
  • Only use the guest wireless network to connect to the internet at school from a privately owned device unless the device has been approved as part of the BYOD programme.
