Trickle Charger is Making Clicking Noise

Schumacher: MC-1 Charger:

The manual for the MC-1 states:

The charger is making an audible clicking sound.

Circuit breaker is cycling

Battery is defective

Shorted battery cables or clamps

The settings may be wrong. Check the charger settings.

Check the battery.

Circuit breaker cycles when the current draw is too high. Check for shorted cables or ring terminals and replace if necessary.

I contacted Schumacher Technical support about the MC-1 model charger, and was told it could be an issue with the battery or the charger. To verify you would need to test on a fully charged battery that was confirmed to be charged with a different charger. If the charge in the battery is too low, the charger doesn't detect it and that could cause the circuit breaker in the battery to trip.

I retested after several days and there is no longer a ticking sound. I believe the battery or charger might have gotten hot enough to change current flow. So, letting both stand for some time likely fixed the issue.
