Holidays
The New School recognizes certain days during the year as paid holidays (i.e. days off from work) for employees. Employees must be actively employed with the University preceding and the day following these holidays. Employees are entitled to the following paid holidays:
- New Year's Day
- Martin Luther King Jr.'s Birthday
- President’s Day
- Memorial Day
- Juneteenth
- Independence Day
- Labor Day
- Thanksgiving Day
- Friday after Thanksgiving
- Christmas Day
- Winter Break (the period between Christmas Eve and New Year's)
When a holiday falls on a Saturday, it shall be celebrated on the previous Friday; when it falls on Sunday, it shall be celebrated the following Monday.
Logging Holidays in MyDay
Full-Time Faculty and Staff
Paid holidays are automatically listed in MyDay for full-time faculty and staff.
Part-Time Staff
Part-time non-union administrative hourly staff, 1205 professional hourly, and SHENS-UAW hourly employees are also paid for university holidays if they fall on a day when the employee would regularly work. These employees should review their work schedule in MyDay and, if scheduled to work on one of the holidays listed above, submit those hours as Holiday time.
