How to troubleshoot personal device (BYOD) if I have problems connecting to the school WiFi
For Laptops and Chromebooks
- Make sure you are connected to the (School) WiFi-Portal, and ensure password is correctly entered. (You may ask the front office or Helpdesk line for the school WiFi password)
- Enable Connect automatically for Windows device, Prioritization for MAC/iOS device, and set it as Prefer this Network for Chromebooks.
Windows (WiFi network list)
Chromebooks (Settings->Network)
MAC (System/Network Preference-> Advanced->drag network on top list)
- Turn off any hotspots enabled on your phone.
- Toggle Off WiFi then turn it back ON after few seconds. (School) WiFi-Portal should automatically connect as you have set it for automatic connection or as preferred network.
- Test the connection by loading any web page (besides Google and YouTube) and see if you can click links.
For Mobile Phones
iPhones
- Open the Settings menu, go into Wi-Fi.
- Make sure you are connected to the (School) WiFi-Portal, and ensure password is correctly entered.
- Next to the (School) WiFi-Portal, click the blue info symbol as shown below.
- In the settings for this specific WiFi network, toggle "Private Wi-Fi Address" to OFF. This will help decrease the chance of your wireless account from hitting the maximum capacity of 10 devices.
- Ignore the "Privacy Warning" message on the main Wi-Fi screen that appears under (School) WiFi-Portal. Your device is still operating on an Enterprise-level secured network.
- Enable Auto-Join
Android devices
- Open the Settings Menu and then go to Connections or Network and Internet.
- Go into WiFi and click the gray "gear" symbol next to the (School) WiFi-Portal.
- At the bottom select Advanced (or Privacy, depending on your model)
- In the Advanced menu select MAC address type
- Change this to Phone MAC or Device MAC. This will help decrease the chance of your wireless account from hitting the maximum capacity of 10 devices.
- Enable Auto-connect
NOTE: If it does not connect, try to Forget/Delete the saved School WiFi network and then repeat the same steps to connect along with the corresponding password. You may also try restarting before reconnecting the network as updates may interfere with connectivity.
After checking the above recommended settings and the network shows Connected, open a browser and go to http://c.ecsrd.ca or https://v.ecssd.ca to verify if your device needs registration or authentication. Make sure to sign in with your Evergreen account.
If you are still having issue connecting to the network, you may contact Helpdesk at 1.877.327.4874 or via email: desktopsupport@ecsrd.ca
