Leave of Absence
We recognize that vacation and holidays are not the only time Upstarters may need to be away from the office – that is why we have a wide range of supportive leave options available when you need an extended period of time off.
You can request a leave of absence or submit a claim directly on your smartphone or tablet, from your computer, or by phone. Medical Leaves
- Personal Medical Leave of Absence: 12 weeks of paid medical leave when you need time away due to a serious medical condition.
Family Leaves
- Pregnancy Leave: 12 weeks of paid pregnancy disability leave (4 weeks pre-birth if your healthcare provider advises as the birthing parent).
- Bonding Leave: 12 weeks of paid leave for parents to bond within the first year for the birth, adoption, or placement of a child.
- Family Care Leave: 12 weeks of paid family leave when you need to take time off to take care of an immediate family member.
Community Leaves
- Military Leave: Upstart grants military leave to eligible employees.
IMPORTANT
Please make sure to inform your manager prior to taking time off or as soon as possible. We understand if there are extenuating circumstances that would prevent you to notify them prior to starting your leave.
Notifying your manager in advance enables them to ensure a smooth transition of your work while you're away and allows for business continuity.
During your leave, your access to Upstart systems will be temporarily suspended. You will continue to have access to your email, slack, Workday, and Guru. Your access will resume once you return.
Pay
Upstart Leave policies include pay continuation from multiple sources. For paid leaves of absence, Upstart pays the remainder of your weekly regular earnings in coordination with applicable disability, state and/or local paid leave programs up to 100% of your regular earnings prior to leave.
How to file a new leave of absence
Note: Make sure that when you are setting up your profile, you are using your personal email as that is how Reliance Matrix will communicate with you on the status of your claim.
