How to Calculate the Winter Quarter Average

This article will demonstrate how to calculate your customers’ winter averages for the year.

Step 1: Select the Utility Billing Module

Step 3: Select Miscellaneous Processes

Step 4: Select Calculate Winter Averages

  • Cycle number: Leave blank if you are updating all winter averages for all customers or select a cycle from the magnify glass
  • Consumption rounding factor: Select how you would like the winter average to be entered. (See examples below);
  • No Rounding – Actual Consumption for the winter average: 12,542
  • Rounding to the nearest 10: 12,540
  • Rounding to the nearest 100: 12,500
  • Rounding to the nearest 1,000: 13,000
  • Rounding to the nearest 10,000: 13,000
  • Rounding to the nearest 100,000: 100,000
  • Round Down: Select Yes or No.
  • Minimum winter average consumption: This is a lowest consumption amount to be placed on the customer’s account if the customer does not have 3 months of consumption to calculate the winter average. Also known as the Default Winter Average.
  • Omit accounts starting on or after this date: Enter a date if you want to exclude accounts that start on or after a certain date.
  • Update Accounts: * It is recommended to select "Print Report Only – no update" from the dropdown list to run the report and verify the new consumption amounts before applying them to the accounts. Once you have ran and verified the report, run the process again and select "Update accounts and print report".

Things to remember

  • Be sure to review/update the below control values when calculating the winter averages:
    NEW_CONNECT_WINTER_AVG: This will tell the system to use the Previous resident winter average when setting a new customer or set them to the Default winter average.
    UBBCALC_WINTER_AVERAGE: This will allow you to set the default winter average
    UBLMRHI_HILITE_WINTER_AVG_MOS: This will allow you to highlight the 3 months used for winter average in the Reading History tab
    *** There are other control values related to the Winter Average. Type “winter” in the filter field to see all control values associated with Calculating the Winter Average.
  • You can find the current winter average on the customer’s Account at a Glance page.
    (Go into UB >> Select Service Accounts >> Locate the customer and select the account)
    You will find the winter average towards the bottom of the page in the grid (see example below).
