Hi Ed,

Good morning. Yes, I am onsite today, until 2:30 (and 12:15-1pm for a meeting). Please let me know if you want me to come down to A409, if you are onesite, or Zoom, if remote.

Best,

XXXXXXXXX

I’m so occupied at a meeting right now and and unable to communicate properly. I need you to help me run an important task at a nearby store around you, let me know if you can help me do this, thanks

Hi again, Ed,

I could. But actually, I was just talking to XXX who said he was going to the Apple store to purchase the gift card ... is this the same thing you need? Then he just left. So ... let me know if you need me to do something else.

Don’t worry since XXX has gone, thanks

Oh, OK. Then just let us know again if anything else.

Red Flags

🚩 The email is not from a newschool.edu email address. All business emails conducted by New School faculty and/or staff are always sent using a verified @newschool.edu email address.
🚩 The email tries to trick the recipient into thinking it is valid by using the name of a New School community member who they know (in this case, someone within their own department).
🚩 The malicious actor requests that gift cards be purchased using their own personal funds.

If you received this email, do not engage with the email— do not reply, download attachments, or click on links. Please forward the email to IT Central at ITCentral@newschool.edu to report the phishing scam and then delete the email from your inbox.
