How to Create a Classic Report in Reporting & Transparency
OpenGov gives you the ability to add as many reports as you would like, for external and public-facing audiences, others in your organization, or for private use. You will want to decide if you want to create a Classic Report or a NextGen Report.
Set up a Classic Report
Watch the video or read the steps below to learn how to create your very own classic custom report!
Step 1: For Classic Reports, Choose the Reports Classic tab and click the blue button “Create New Report”:
Step 2: Choose the report template that you would like to start and click on it directly. Some guidance is given to you as to which type to choose:
Further guidance:
- The Standard template is most often used for Annual Reports
- The Monthly template works well for Current Year Reports.
- The Grid-based template is most often used for granular data, Transactions, or Checkbook Reports.
- A Balance Sheet is often used to visualize cash and fund balances.
If you select a Chart of Accounts-Linked report (Standard and Monthly), you will need to select which ledger types to include in your report:
Step 3: Choose your data set(s) to include in the report and click Next:
You can select multiple datasets for Standard, Monthly, and Balance Sheet reports, but only a single dataset for Grid reports.
Give your report a name (and optionally a description) and click Create:
After clicking “Create” you will be taken to your new report and see a green “Success!” notification on the bottom right of the screen:
Set up a NextGen Report
Step 1: For Next Gen Reports, Choose the Next Gen Reports tab and click the blue button “Create a Report”:
Step 2: Choose your dataset to include in the report and click Next. Note that you will need to select a dataset that is not linked to a Chart of Accounts. If you select a dataset that is linked to a Chart of Accounts, the report creation will fail.
Step 3: Give your report a name (and optionally a description) and click Finish:
You have a new report to now explore!
