How to Transfer HDB2 Files to Another Server
Parts of the historical archive can be transferred to another server for to free up storage space on the primary server, or to update the back-up archive. HDB2 files can be transferred from one Historian server to another in two main steps:
Copy and paste HDB2 files into the new historian.
Validate the transferred files.
Copy and Paste HDB2 Files
Open the Canary Admin. Select the 'Services' tile. Select 'Stop' in the row labeled 'Historian' to stop a service. This creates a buffer in the Sender service while the files are being transferred. Repeat step 1 on the other Historian machine.
Locate the HDB2 files. By default they are located in C:\Historian Data\DataSetName.
Shift-click and drag to select the date range for the files to be transferred. Copy and paste them into the HistorianData folder on the 'new' machine by remotely connecting to that machine or by downloading the HDB files onto a flash drive.
This process may take a long amount of time depending on the file size.
Validate Transferred Files
After transferring the files, they may need cut and trimmed to match up the time so there is no overlap. This can be done by validating the first and last file. To validate a file:
Select the daily file, then the down arrow on the left side of the snapshot below.
Select 'VALIDATE'. This process may take a few moments.
Open the Canary Admin. Select the 'Services' tile. Select 'Start' in the historian row. Now the Sender buffer gets flushed out and the transfer process is complete.
