Technical Partner Manager

This is an Assignment's Handbook...
In Product we break our jobs into smaller units of responsibility we call
Assignments. We do this to provide clarity for the person doing the job (what am I being relied upon for), clarity for the person's teammates (what can I rely on this person for), as well as to encourage high quality (specific and relevant) feedback.

Function Leader (ℹ️):

= AR3 (Canaan is second-in-command for this Assignment... and may take this over as primary function lead)

Tagline:

We ensure that our technical partnerships are healthy. That means clarifying expectations, managing communication, and ultimately being accountable for success (win-win makers).

Outcome:

  • TBD
    • Something about the health (budget, responsiveness, and general return on investment) of the partnership as defined by the exec team (finance and ops primarily)

Required Activities:

  • ?? Annual budget... can explain/justify the cost/benefit ??
  • ?? Health reviews (quarterly, monthly, or on the weekly scorecard) ??
  • ?? Internal point-of-contact for issues and general communication between organizations??

Handbook:

There are three types of Technical Partners.

  1. Strategic
    1. These involve sales and marketing. ADP, Qualifi, Toolbelt, even projects like the StateFarm SSO project, and anyone who builds to our API
  2. Infrastructure
    1. These are focused on DevOps. AWS, Bandwidth, Sift, and any other production tooling as a service we use.
  3. Productivity
    1. These are focused on giving the internal team super powers. Jira, Slack, ProductBoard, Asana, and you could include Sift in this category as well.

This Assignment is focused on #2 and #3. We may break it out into two separate Assignments, but for now the motion is too similar so we are keeping them as 1 Assignment.

#1, Strategic partnerships, are managed by the Technical Account Management Assignment (Guru card coming soon). These two Assignment sound very similar. If you have an idea on how to disambiguate them, please let us know in the #product-career-growth-frameworks channel!
