Full Time, Three Quarter Time, and Half Time Enrollment Policy

Purpose
This policy articulates the minimum threshold of credits in which a student must be enrolled in order to be determined full time, three quarter time, or part time. These guidelines are in accordance with institutional and federal financial aid policy.
Scope
The audience for this policy is all students enrolled in graduate or undergraduate programs.

Responsibilities
Advising: Appropriately sharing enrollment thresholds and status information with students
Colleges: Articulation of degree requirements within these thresholds
Financial Aid: Reporting of student enrollment to the National Student Loan Data System (NSLDS) and appropriate financial aid packaging
Registrar: Setting up registration to ensure appropriate limits are created each term based on the level and program
Student accounts: Bill based in accordance with this policy
Policy
This policy establishes minimum enrollment by semester for a student to be considered full time, three quarter time, or part time. Maximum possible enrollments by semester are governed by the Maximum Credit Hour policy. In addition, while a threshold is articulated below, individual degree programs may expect a higher enrollment per semester (up to the limit articulated in the Maximum Credit Hour policy) for timely progression to degree.
Undergraduate: BA, BS, BM, BFA
Full time | 12 or more credits |
Three quarter time | 9-11.99 credits |
Half time | 6-8.99 credits |
Less than half time | .1-5.99 credits |
Not enrolled | 0 credits |
Graduate: MA, MArch, MM, MS, MFA, MPS, PBC, PhD
Full time | 9 or more credits |
Three quarter time | 6-8.99 |
Half time | 4.5-5.99 |
Less than half time | .1-4.49 |
Not enrolled | 0 |
