How to Configure the Sample Interval

The Sample Interval, much like dead-banding, is a feature for filtering out inconsequential data. When the Sample Interval is set, the Collector only pulls data if it changes within the set duration.

  1. Open the Canary Admin application. Select the 'OPC Collector' tile.

  2. Start a New Logging Session or select an existing logging session.

  3. Selecting 'New Group' to the right of 'New Session' unless using an existing group.

  4. Find the Sample Interval field under the 'Group Settings' section of the page. '00.00.01' second is the default setting.

  5. Check the 'Normalize Times:' checkbox to round values up to the time format indicated in the Sample Interval.

    1. If logging data every hour, you may not be worried about timestamp precision in seconds.

Some OPC Servers do not honor our Sample Interval request. The OPC Server may not have the ability to handle a historian request, so all updates get sent.
