Barcode Scanner - Scanning Logic

In order for many tracking numbers to be scanned properly in PostalMate, the barcode scanner may need to be programmed to capture the full tracking number, which might not be visible on the label. Many shipping labels include additional numbers that are not legible to the human eye but contain crucial information necessary when scanning packages in PostalMate. Also, the barcode scanner should be programmed with a carriage return at the end of each scan. This effectively acts as the 'enter' key after scanning.

There are numerous barcode scanners available on the open market, and each brand/model has its own specific programming codes. Due to these variances, our Support team can only provide assistance with barcode scanners listed in our hardware requirements.

USPS Label Example:

  • Open WordPad on your computer.
  • Scan in a USPS tracking label, such as the one above.
  • You can read 9202390101838216984024 as the tracking number.
  • However, the actual scan should look like this: 420569019202390101838216984024 (with the carriage return (CR) at the end).

FedEx Label Example

When scanning FedEx labels, the scanner should grab the full, long tracking, as highlighted below and include a carriage return at the end of the scan.
