BYOD: Personal Device FAQs
Username (Email Address) and Initial Password (default for new accounts) - Where can I get this information?
- You can ask your teacher for your username, or
- You can ask the office.
- If you have a brand-new account, your temporary/default password will be set to your ECSSD Student Number, NOT the ASN (Alberta Student Number)
- For K-3 students use your ECSSD Student Number and not the ASN (Alberta Student Number)
Google - Why can’t I log into google but I can login to my regular account?
- Your password is too short and doesn’t meet Google’s password requirements which are:
- At least 8 characters and at least three (3) of the following four (4) options: lower case letters, uppercase letters, base 10 numbers, special characters.
- See “Password Reset” below.
Wi-Fi - Why is it not the school wi-fi working on my own device?
- Your device isn’t logged into the (School) WiFi-Portal network - this is the only network you can connect to on your personal device.
- WiFi password is not correctly entered and/or
- Needs re-authentication or registration. Open a web browser and go to http://c.ecsrd.ca to register, or https://v.ecsrd.ca to verify the account used for signing in - Evergreen account.
- It might also be that your anti-virus/internet protection software/vpn is blocking your access to the network. Turn off the security software, try logging into the network again and then turn the security software back on.
Password Reset - How do I reset my password (I know my current password but need to change it)?
- You can reset your password at https://ecsrd.me/pwreset or,
- If you are logged in to a division workstation, you can press Ctrl+Alt+Del and choose Change password, or
- Once you've changed your password via option 1 or 2, you can also go to https://aka.ms/ssprsetup and configure Self-Service Password Reset for your account.
Forgot My Password - What should I do if I forget my password?
- If you have set up Self-Service Password Reset, go to https://aka.ms/sspr and follow the prompts to recover your account and change your password.
- If you haven't previously set up Self-Service Password Reset for your account, please contact the IT Help Desk at 1-877-327-4874 during Help Desk Hours (M-F: 8am-12pm & 1pm-4pm), or
- Contact the school office so they can contact desktop support to reset it for you. This reset may take up to 24 hours.
Printing – How do I send my document from my device to the classroom printer.
SETUP (This only needs to be done once per device)
- The first step in printing is to install the driver for Mobility Print Printer Setup. Visit https://ecsrd.me/printsetup. Follow the directions on the page. If you have already completed the setup, you can skip to the next step.
Printing
- From your device, print your document. When the printer options appear, choose the printer “{schoolname} student printing”.
- Enter your ECSRD account credentials.
- This will send your print job to the central print queue.
Retrieving your print job
- If you have a mobile device with a camera, scan the QR code at the printer, and follow the prompts to release your print job, or
- If you do not have a mobile device:
- Visit https://printing.ecsrd.ca
- Login with your ECSRD account credentials.
- Choose “Jobs Pending Release” from the left side menu.
- Find the job you would like printed and click the “print” link on the right-hand side.
- Click the name of the printer where you would like your print job sent to (the name of the printer is located on the physical printer where the QR code is found).
Mac/Apple Device Connection Issues FAQ
Why can I login on a school computer but not my Mac or Apple Device?
- Your Mac or Apple device may not be connecting to the school WiFi network. Try using one of the following procedures to correct the problem.
- CLEAR YOUR HISTORY
- Open Safari, then click “History” form the upper toolbar and completely clear your History (from all time).
- Fully shut down Safari by clicking “Safari > Quit Safari” from the upper toolbar (simply pressing the red ‘X’ does not close apps, it only closes the open window of an app).
- Ensure you are connected to the (School) WiFi-Portal by clicking on the “Wireless” icon at the top right of your screen.
- Re-open Safari, and type “http://c.ecsrd.ca” into the address bar. You should be directed to the Evergreen Wireless Staff and Student login page.
- Click “ECS-WiFi” from the choices and input your standard ECSRD username (email address) and password in the Google sign-in prompt.
- If at any point during step 4, you are instead directed to a completely blank page, repeat steps 1 and 2. Then disconnect from the School WiFi-Portal and re-connect. Then try step 4 again.
- *Please note that different versions of Mac OS have slightly different layouts. The “History” menu may or may not be found in the top toolbar for all versions of Mac OS.
- *Also note that it is ideal that Mac OS’ are fully updated when you intend on using them for school as Apple is constantly modifying their security features and how they work with Wireless Networks including ours.
