Mailchimp & Mandrill
Mailchimp is a powerful communication tool. You can set up automated marketing campaigns as well as manual one-off email send-outs. Magine Pro has an integration with Mailchimp that will let you communicate with your customer immediately without further development. You can read more about Mailchimp here.
Mandrill is a transactional email platform built by Mailchimp that can be used for one-to-one messages that are triggered by certain events. Typical transactional emails are reset password emails, receipt emails and welcome to the service emails. You can read more about Mandrill here.
Magine Pro integration with Mailchimp
The integration between Magine Pro and Mailchimp works in the following way.
New Users
New users are created as contacts in Mailchimp instantly after their account creation on the Magine Pro platform, i.e. all users who have registered their email in the signup process.
To be compliant with GDPR only users that have opted-in (i.e. checked the "Send me newsletters and promotions" checkbox during the signup process) will be added as subscribers to your mailing list. All other users will be added to Mailchimp with the status "unsubscribed".
Existing Users - Unsubscribe
If an existing user wants to unsubscribe from the marketing mailing list in Mailchimp, they can do so, by clicking on the unsubscribe link, at the bottom of any marketing email that is sent from the partner to the end customer.
Existing Users - Update Contact Email
If an existing user updates their contact email in the service via their settings page, the Magine Pro platform will synchronise with Mailchimp. It will clean the old contact email, and create a new profile with the updated email.
User Data
For all users in Mailchimp, we will populate a set of data attributes. This data contains e.g. watched hours the last 365 days or their current active products. See a full list here.
Most of this data will be updated once every 24 hours.
Data on the user object, e.g. name, contact e-mail and country will be updated instantly.
Note: If you want to use Mailchimp to also get in touch with persons who don't have an account with your service yet. Please create a separate audience for them. Our system will archive all unknown email addresses in Mailchimp.
How to connect Mailchimp and Mandrill with the Magine Pro system
If you decide to use these tools please add the Mailchimp API key and the Audience ID in the Magine Pro Console to establish the initial connection. When that is done you can follow these guides and configure Mailchimp and Mandrill.
Changing the newsletter preferences
A user decides during the account registration process if she wants to receive newsletters. If she wants to change the status of her newsletter preferences, later on, she will need to do the following:
- Unsubscribe: Click on the unsubscribe button in the newsletter
- Subscribe: Contact customer support who can change the settings in the newsletter 3rd party tool
User deletion requests
If a user requests that her account should be deleted you also need to remove the user information from Mailchimp. Our system automatically adds user information but doesn't delete it. Our system will instead archive the user account.
Managing Audience size
Mailchimp is charging you based on the size of your audience. As our system is exporting all created user accounts your audience will also include email addresses that you can't contact.
To save costs on your Mailchimp plan you can define criteria for users that you consider to be inactive and then archive them. Mailchimp is not charging you for archived users.
Example criteria for inactive users:
- no active offer
- 0 watched hours during the last 3 months
- Unsubscribed from the newsletter
To archive users
- Go to your audience in Mailchimp
- Create a segment with your criteria
- Select all contacts in that segment
- Actions --> Archive
You can unarchive any user at any time. Our system will also update archived users which means the contact will have the latest data set.
