Complete Your Mid-Year Performance Check-in

Performance management at The New School is a year-long, cyclical process designed to ensure that every employee has the opportunity to receive meaningful feedback, understand priorities and expectations, and discuss performance competencies and skills most critical for their role.

Employees will have two check-ins per year with their manager to document progress and receive feedback:

  1. A mid-year check-in
  2. An annual check-in that includes a performance rating for the year and a discussion on any new goals, priorities, or initiatives for the upcoming year. Review the job aide for the annual check-in.

This job aide will walk you through the steps to complete your mid-year performance review check-in. The table of contents (three line icon) at the left may be used to navigate to different steps in this process.

Overview

The general workflow of the performance review check-in is listed below. Use the table of contents (three line icon) at the top left of this card to navigate to the different steps in this process.

  1. Completing the Performance Review Check-in as the Employee: Performance Review Check-ins are initiated by Human Resources for employees to complete. Upon completion, the review is routed to the employee’s manager/direct supervisor.
  2. Reviewing the Performance Review Check-in as the Manager (Direct Supervisor): The manager/direct supervisor has the ability to add comments and either approve or send back to the employee for further review.
  3. Reviewing the Performance Review Check-in as the Direct Supervisor’s Manager: If the performance review is approved by the employee’s direct supervisor, it is then routed to the direct supervisor’s manager for review. The direct supervisor’s manager has the ability to either approve or send back to the employee or the employee’s manager for further review.
  4. Acknowledging the Performance Review Check-in as the Employee: If the performance review is approved by the employee’s direct supervisor, it is then routed to the direct supervisor’s manager for review. The direct supervisor’s manager has the ability to either approve or send back to the employee or the employee’s manager for further review.

Once the performance review is approved by the employee’s direct supervisor and the direct supervisor’s manager, it is then routed back to the employee to acknowledge and submit.

If you have any questions during this process please feel free to reach out to Ali Cherasia in Human Resources.
