Remote Desktop Access to Office PCs
If you have not done so already, contact your department IT manager to request remote desktop access to your office PC. After access is granted, follow the below to remote access your office PC.
Step 1: Connect to Internet.
Verify that your personal computer or University laptop has Internet access from your current location.
Step 2: Connect to VPN.
The Cisco AnyConnect VPN program is already installed on most University owned laptops. If not, or if you are using your personal laptop, download the Cisco AnyConnect Windows installer from here:
Software for Home >>
Cisco AnyConnect VPN for Faculty/Staff - Employee Home Use
After Downloading Cisco AnyConnect VPN:
Locate the extracted files and run the Setup.exe
Select only "Core & VPN." Deselect all other options and click "Install Selected"
After installation, or if the program was already installed, find Cisco AnyConnect on the Windows start menu and start the program.
Click Connect.
Enter Network ID and password.
Check your phone or MFA device for Duo authentication. There is no visual prompt on the screen, but you will have to authenticate via Duo to use VPN. Entering Network ID and password in AnyConnect will automatically send a Duo push to your primary MFA device. This works best if the Duo Mobile app is installed on your phone. Contact your department IT manager if you need direction on setting up Duo for multi-factor authentication.
Step 3: Connect with Remote Desktop to your office PC.
After VPN is connected, use the Microsoft Remote Desktop program in windows.
Enter the computer name or IP address of your PC and click "Connect." You can get the computer name or IP address for your PC from your department IT manager.
Enter network ID in this format: ds\username
Enter password.
Follow on-screen directions for MFA authentication (Duo) if required.
You should now be connected to your office PC.
When your work is complete, you can use the Sign Out in Windows.
Or use the x on the bar at the top of the screen to close the remote connection without signing out of your account on your office PC.
Contact your department IT manager for further assistance if needed.
