Creating an Absence Plan
An absence plan should be submitted when notifying your academic leadership (program director, course coordinator, chair, etc.) of any upcoming absence from a scheduled class session. Use the steps below to create your absence plan.
How to create an Absence Plan
- Reach out to your academic leadership (program director, course coordinator, chair, etc.), with your University Part-Time Faculty Affairs Contacts on copy to notify them of the date of your upcoming absence.
- In consultation with academic leadership, create an Absence Plan that works for your class. College-specific instructions are included below. Some plan options may include:
- Scheduling a makeup session on one of the designated University makeup session dates (see: University Academic Calendar);
- Scheduling a makeup session outside of the official makeup session dates, as approved;
- Scheduling a session via alternative modality of course delivery, as approved;
- Identifying an appropriate substitute for your missed class session at the regularly scheduled class time;
- Canceling that class session, and assigning students appropriate work outside of class to make up the missed session.
- Confirm the Absence Plan is approved by your academic leadership.

If your approved Absence Plan includes any of the following, you do not need to proceed with submitting your Time Off via MyDay:
- Scheduling a makeup session on one of the designated University makeup session dates;
- Scheduling a makeup session outside of the official makeup session dates, as approved;
- Scheduling a session via alternative modality of course delivery, as approved;
If your Absence Plan includes any of the following, please do proceed complete the all steps on the Part-time faculty time off checklist and submit your time off on MyDay:
- Identifying an appropriate substitute for your missed class session at the regularly scheduled class time;
- Canceling that class session, and assigning students appropriate work outside of class to make up the missed session.
