How to Submit a Case in the Member Portal

Before You Start

  • Log in to the SOCAN Member Portal
  • Have relevant details ready (work title, dates, platform, documents, etc.)
Be as specific as possible to help SOCAN respond efficiently

Step 1 — Access “My Cases”

  1. From your dashboard, scroll to the bottom
  2. Locate the My Cases section

Step 2 — Open a New Case

  1. Click Open New Cases

Step 3 — Enter Case Basics

  1. Enter the Subject of your case
    1. Use a clear subject to help route your case correctly.
  2. Member will be defaulted to what account you are currently viewing in the portal.

Step 4 — Select Case Type

  1. Choose the appropriate:
    • Case Type
    • Sub Type
    • Update Type (if applicable)
These selections help SOCAN direct your case to the right team.

Step 5 — Answer Additional Questions

  • Based on the case type selected, you may be asked additional questions
  • Complete all required fields to avoid delays

If your request involves multiple works or detailed information, you can choose one of the following options:

  • Attach a document with the full details (list of works, dates, platforms, etc.)
    • In the required fields, simply note “See attached document”

OR

Add details in the Description field

  • In the required fields, note “See description”

Example information may include:

  • Work title(s)
  • Platform or service
  • Date(s) of performance or use

Step 6 — Add Comments & Attach Files (Optional)

  1. Add any additional comments
  2. Upload relevant documents if applicable
Supporting documents can help resolve your case faster.

Step 7 — Submit Your Case

  1. When finished, click Submit

Step 8 — Track Your Case

After submission:

  • You will be redirected to the Cases dashboard
  • You can:
    • View open cases
    • Check case status (Active or Resolved)
    • Receive messages from SOCAN staff if follow-up is needed
