How to Submit a Publisher Application (Performing Rights & Reproduction Rights)
Ensure you meet the publisher eligibility requirements.
Before You Start
- Log in to the SOCAN Member Portal
- Have required documents ready (business registration and publishing agreements)
- Have your banking and company information available
STEP 1 — Start a New Application
- Scroll to the bottom of the homepage.
- Locate My Applications (above My Cases and below Cue Sheets).
Step 2 — Create a New Application
- Click + Create New Application (top-right of the My Applications section)
- Select Publisher Application.
STEP 3 — Select Member Rights Type
- Under Member Rights Type, select
Performing Rights (PR) and Reproduction Rights (RR). - Click Next.
Review the red notification regarding shared personal and business information.
STEP 4 — Confirm Eligibility
- Select your Membership Eligibility Criteria from the drop-down menu.
- Choose one of the mandatory eligibility options.
- Click Accept.
You cannot continue without selecting one of the required eligibility options.
STEP 5 — Upload Required Documents
- Under Business Registration, click Choose File to upload your documents.
- Under Relevant Publishing Agreements, upload the required agreements.
- Click Next.
STEP 6 — Enter Publisher Information
- Enter the company name.
- Indicate whether you have current or past PR organization membership.
- If Yes, enter the organization name.
Complete all mandatory fields marked with a red asterisk (*).
STEP 7 — Enter Address and Contact Information
- Complete all required fields under:
- Address Information
- Contact Information
- Company Information
STEP 8 — Select Publisher Structure
- Under Partnership, select your publisher type.
Depending on your selection:
- If Self-publishing (incorporated or partnership):
- Add Officers or Partners using Add an Officer or Add a Partner.
- If Self-publishing (sole proprietorship):
- Complete the Sole Proprietorship section.
- Click Next.
STEP 9 — Enter Banking Information
- Select your Bank Account Location:
- Canadian Bank Account
- US Bank Account
- Outside Canada and the US
- Complete all required banking fields.
If selecting Outside Canada and the US:
- Click the Wire Transfer Request link and complete the form.
- Review the notice regarding direct deposit.
- Click I agree, then Next.
Your membership cannot be processed without banking information.
STEP 10 — Enter Rights Holder Information
- Enter the Rights Holder Name.
- Enter the Company Representative Name.
- Complete mandatory address and contact details.
Enter your SOCAN Performing Rights Member Number or IPI Number (if applicable).
STEP 11 — Review Representation and Licensing Options
- Review the Terms and Conditions.
- Select the territory:
- Canada only
- Canada and the rest of the world
- Under Offerings, select:
- Territory (World or Canada only)
- Rights granted exclusively to SOCAN
- Rights granted non-exclusively to SOCAN
- Any licensing restrictions (if applicable)
- Click Next.
STEP 12 — Confirm and Submit
- Review your application.
- Submit the application.
Your confirmation number will appear on the screen.
What Happens Next?
Your application will be reviewed by SOCAN.
