AutoCAD Drafting Documentation
DESCRIPTION
Below are links to the various documents stored in Sharepoint or on Guru that are related to AutoCAD and/or Drafting. Documents are listed in order of importance, so if you are new to drafting in AutoCAD or are new to the L3AV Engineering department then you should go through the documents in the order shown.
RESOURCES
L3AV AutoCAD Setup Guide
The manual used to configure settings in AutoCAD after initial installation.
L3AV AutoCAD Setup Guide
AutoCAD LT 2026 settings - Additional settings to apply once you have gone through the AutoCAD Setup Guide.
L3AV AutoCAD Drafting Manual
A comprehensive document detailing the L3AV standards for creating drawing sets. This is essentially a technical reference manual for the information that needs to be included for all pages types. A sample drawing set is appended to the end of the document that illustrates most of the concepts detailed in the manual. Note that while this sample set is accurate per current L3AV standards, it does include some drawing pages that aren't currently in use by the Build Engineering team (eg. EDID tables). The page numbering should also be ignored, as this is an older set that utilized JPMC page numbering standards.

L3AV AutoCAD Standards
A companion guide to the Drafting Manual that provides information on why we draft the way we do as well as providing more granular information on how to work with various page types.

L3AV Signal Flow Block Standards
The reference guide on how to create signal flow blocks. The concepts laid out in this document should be followed for all signal flow blocks you create or modify. Failure to follow the established guidelines will likely result in you being asked to revise any incorrectly built signal flow blocks.

SYS-ID & Cable Labeling Standards
Guru card detailing the requirements for creating SYS-IDs and cable labels.
Drafting - SYS-ID & Cable Labeling Standards
L3AV Engineering Standards DOCUMENTS
Reference documents for SYS-IDs, Connector abbreviations, and Cable Label identification, as well as information on ARCH sizes, and a reference for power connector types. Most of these are living documents subject to periodic updates and should be consulted whenever there is a question related to any of the below topics. Please submit any requests for changes/additions as a L10 Issue for consideration by the Engineering team.

Drafting - Cable Label Reference Guide
Drafting - Connector Types Reference Guide
Drafting - Standard ARCH Paper Sizes
Drafting - Power Connectors Reference
Cable Label Attribute Extraction guide
A walkthrough on how to extract cable labels from Signal Flows.
L3AV AutoCAD Cable Label Extraction
SUPPLEMENTAL RESOURCES
L3AV Conduit Fill Calculator - Tool for calculating either the conduit size required for a given number/type of cables, or for determining the maximum number of cables per a given conduit diameter. This is a WIP (work in progress) document that was never quite completed, but the formulas work correctly and the data shown for each cable type is accurate. Note that we may have shifted where we source certain cable types from (eg. cat6 is now from Windy City) so you may need to verify the OD (outer diameter) info for certain cables to ensure that you calculations are correct.
