How to Register an Agreement in the Member Portal

Before You Start

You must be logged in as the Assignor or the Assignee
Have relevant agreement documents ready (Letters of Direction, schedules, etc.)
Only Administrative and Sub-Publishing agreements can be submitted through the portal


Step 1 — Start a New Agreement

  1. Log in to the Member Portal
  2. Go to Agreements
  3. Select Register New Agreement
  4. Review the *Helpful Tips" at the top of the page.

Step 2 — Add Assignor Details

  1. In the Assignor section, click the three dots next to IPI Number, then click Select IP
  2. Search using:
    • IPI Number
    • IPI Name
    • SOCAN Account Number
  3. Click Select

The following fields will auto-populate:

  • IPI Number
  • IPI Name
  • Society Affiliation

Step 3 — Choose Agreement Type

  • General → applies to the full catalog
  • Specific → applies only to selected works

If selecting Specific, select one of the following under Applicable Work Types:

  • Include → only selected works are included
  • Exclude → full catalog except selected works

Applicable works are added later.

Step 4 — Define Agreement Details

  1. Select Agreement Category
    • Available in portal:
      • Administrative
      • Sub-Publishing
    • Other agreement types must be submitted to agreements@socan.com
  2. Select Assigned Set Type (choose all that apply):
    • PR – Performing Rights
    • MR – Mechanical Rights
    • SY – Synchronization Rights
  3. Select Effective From Date
    • Future dates are allowed
  4. Click the three dots next to Territory
    • Default: World
    • You may include or exclude specific territories
  5. Optional fields:
    • Effective To Date
    • Agreement Signature Date
    • Prior Royalties (if applicable)
  6. Click Next

Step 5 — Add Assignee(s)

  1. Go to the Assignee tab
  2. Click Add New
  3. Click the three dots next to Assignee Name Number, then click Select IP
  4. Search and select the Assignee

You must be logged in as either the Assignor or the Assignee.

  1. Enter the percentage share for each assigned right
  2. Click Next

Step 6 — Add Applicable Works (Specific Agreements Only)

  1. Click Add New
  2. Use the three dots next to Work Title, then Select Work
  3. Search for works by Title, Writer/Publisher Name, IP number (auto-populated to show the IPI number of the account selected under View As), Work Number, and Artist name.
  4. Select the work

If you chose Exclude, the listed works will be excluded from the agreement.

  1. Click Next

Step 7 — Add Notes (Optional)

  • Add comments or reminders for yourself
  • Leave notes for the SOCAN Agreements team
  • Select a category if applicable

This step does not affect agreement processing.

Click Next


Step 8 — Upload Documents

Upload required documentation, including:

  • Letters of Direction
  • Agreement schedules (for all Specific agreements)
  • Letters of Relinquishment (if applicable/available)

Drag and drop files, then click Next


Step 9 — Review, Save & Submit

You can save your agreement in draft by pressing Save Changes.

You can submit your agreement by pressing Confirm & Submit Agreement.

Under "View My Draft Agreements"

Submitted drafts will show a status of Draft Submitted

Saved drafts will show a status of Draft

Once agreements have been processed and registered they will show up under "My Registered Agreements"
