Export or Share Content
Guru Knowledge Base is maintained as a singular, community-verified source of truth for Faculty and Staff at The New School. This means our system is designed for regular browsing and sharing with colleagues across departments, so all of our functional, institutional knowledge comes from the same place!
By clicking Share from the navigation menu in the upper-right-hand of the screen, you can see all available options to share Guru content with fellow Community Members. The three options for sharing the card are:
- Copy Link: Copy a URL linking to a Guru card or its contents.
- Download as PDF: Download a PDF version of the card for email, cloud upload, or print.
- Copy Embed Code: Copy code to embed a Guru card in another site.
- Copy Card Content: Copy the contents of a Guru card to paste into another card, document, or browser.
All eligible TNS employees have access to Guru card content tailored to their relevant User Permissions. Different share methods will be appropriate for different scenarios, community members, and user roles.
In areas where information needs to be regularly verified and uniformly available to all community members, consider exploring whether to Share a Guru Card via CMS.
Best option for: linking information to known Guru users within the database.
NOTE: Card links can only be shared with individuals who have access to the Collection, Board or the specific card. Visit Privacy & Sharing Options to learn more.
Guru offers robust linking capabilities within card content: including links to cards, section headers, or blocks of text.
Copy Link to a Guru Card
Use the 'share' button (👥) to the upper right of a Guru card and select '🔗 Copy Link' to copy a link to the entire card.
You can also reference the URL at the top of your browser when the card is open and copy the link manually, or hover over a card title in the collections menu and copy a link to that card using the chain' icon (🔗).
For cards that you refer to or share regularly, we recommend you Favorite (❤️) the card and add it to a Favorites List.
Copy a Direct Link to Guru Card Content
Hover your mouse directly to the left of the content you would like your link to navigate to directly. You will see a clickable 'chain' icon (🔗) appear under your cursor. Click this icon to copy a direct link to the content you'd like to jump to within that card.
Download as PDF
Best option for: Sharing information with non-Guru users in an singular instance that does not need regular verification.
Click Share > Download as PDF to save individual Guru Cards as a PDF in your computer. When a card is downloaded from guru as a PDF, the export will include:
- The card title
- The most card's recent verification information (date and Verifier).
- The content of the card excluding Emojis and incompatible style elements.
This PDF is printable and shareable, just like any other PDF.
It is not possible for users to download multiple Guru cards at once within the Knowledge Base. Reach out to Director of Communications, Mia Gomez, if you require a batch PDF export from Guru using advanced permissions.
Download a Folder as a PDF
It is possible to download an entire Folder as a PDF from the Guru web application. This option is not available via the Guru Browser Extension or the mobile app.
Click the ellipses ("...") next to a Folder's name and select Download as a PDF from the menu. Your Folder will download as a single .pdf file with a Table of Contents mirroring any sub-folders.
Print Information from Guru
In order to print out content from a Guru card, you must download the content as a PDF first. After the PDF is downloaded to your computer, you can print the PDF using system settings as normal.
Copy Card Content
Best suited for: Creating new Guru cards using preferred formatting, sharing information in external media with peers outside of the Guru database.
When you have located the card you wish to share, click Share > Copy Card Content to copy the body of the card and its formatting to your clipboard. Paste this into your email, chat, document, or wherever you wish to share.
NOTE: Copy Card Content only copies the body of a card and does not capture the card's title.
The Details of a card keeps tally of the number of times that card's content has been copied.
In areas where information needs to be regularly verified and uniformly available to all community members, consider exploring whether to Share a Guru Card via CMS.
