Human Resources (HR) Overview

Human Resources (HR) provides the New School community with information and guidance on workplace policies and practices; talent acquisition; student employment; health, retirement, and other benefits; employee relations; institutional equity and accessibility and related issues; staff training and development; and other human resources functions.

HR Operations

The HR Operations team supports the employee lifecycle and assists managers and employees in day-to-day tasks such as payroll administration, recruitment, benefits management, systems and process management and compliance. The HR Operations unit consists of Operations, Payroll, Talent Acquisition, Compensation, and Student Employment.

Operations

The Operations team manages the university's HR systems and data, oversees processing of payroll, budgets and reports, and manages business processes in MyDay. This team is also instrumental in operationalizing labor contracts.

Payroll

The Payroll office within Human Resources at The New School processes all employee wages and stipends, withholds all appropriate taxes on wages, files payroll tax reports and creates W-2 statements, and deducts benefits premiums and other authorized items from employee wages. Our primary mission is to provide prompt and accurate payments to all faculty, staff, and student workers at The New School. View the Payroll Schedule for additional information.

Talent Acquisition and Compensation

The Talent Acquisition and Compensation department assists and advises hiring managers and HR partners in developing and executing recruitment and search strategies to ensure that internal and external recruitment meets all affirmative action and regulatory requirements. Managers are encouraged to contact Talent Acquisition as vacancies arise or whenever the need for staffing changes arises within their department (terminations, promotions, lateral moves, etc.). This team is also responsible for establishing and managing the university's compensation structure and practices.

Shared Services

The Shared Services team are trusted strategic consultants to leadership and employees. Strategic HR Partners collaborate to help lead and drive change management, leadership development, and growth. Strategic HR Partners are assigned to designated areas across the university and where they promote HR policies and practices, process unemployment claims, verifications and tuition waivers, answer general HR questions and performance management inquiries, and are responsible for initiating HR transactions including hires, re-assignments, employee status changes, title changes, on-campus employment student assignments, miscellaneous payments, etc.

Organizational Development and Training

The Organizational Development and Training team serves as a strategic partner with the university community, facilitating learning, growth, and engagement experiences that inspire and nurture staff personally and professionally. We offer customized support, programs, and initiatives and foster continuous learning in individuals and teams that align with the strategic goals of the university. This team also supports team building and strengthening team communications by offering various assessments and coaching. Organizational Development is committed to building a community in which all staff feel respected, have a sense of belonging, and are able to participate to their fullest potential.
