Virtual Private Network (VPN)
What is the VPN?
The New School offers a virtual private network (VPN) enabling faculty, staff, and other authorized individuals to access internal computer systems from off-campus.
You must be logged into the VPN in order to access the below:
- Network Drives
- Tableau
- Perceptive
- Banner
- To sync your password with your local device after resetting
System Access & Navigation
The below steps must be completed by all users in order to access the VPN:
- Privacy & Security Training
All VPN users must complete the New School Information Security Awareness training course prior to receiving access to the VPN. - VPN Request Form
Once training is completed, users must request access to the VPN through the VPN Request Form. - DUO 2-Step
All users must have a device enrolled for Duo (multi-factor authentication) to access the VPN. - FortiClient
Users must download the FortiClient VPN software onto their laptop or desktop computer. Please refer to the IT website for instructions to download and install the FortiClient VPN software.
NOTE: You must have an internet connection to access the VPN. A slight lag or slowing of processing power is normal when using the VPN.
Open the FortiClient application on your computer and login using your NetID and password; click "Connect." You will need to verify your login using Duo. Once the request has been approved on your mobile device, your computer should automatically connect to the VPN
Please review these instructions to set up the VPN on your mobile device.
