Paid Department/Program Meetings Overview for PTF

Overview

The ACT-UAW 7902 Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) includes provisions that invite and allow for part-time faculty to engage more often with the work of their programs/departments. The primary mechanism is through the “Department Meeting”. The CBA states “(e)ach academic year, each department/program will hold four (4) paid meetings open to all Faculty teaching in the department/program”.

Part-time faculty should expect to be invited to four eligible meetings per year (two per semester) in each program/department in which they currently teach. Those with confirmed attendance at these meetings are compensated for one hour at the Miscellaneous Non-teaching rate, and funded through a central Department Meeting Provost’s Office fund.

The meetings may cover a broad range of topics. Departments are encouraged to to help part-time faculty develop an understanding of teaching, learning and assessment practices and their ability to contribute toward student learning assessment at multiple levels, from individual assignment outcomes, to course and program learning outcomes. Please note that per the CBA, some time in the meeting will be set aside for open conversation to allow you to raise “any matter of general importance” with program leadership, “which may include matters related to curriculum.”

Process: Invitation, Attendance and Payment

Part-time faculty will receive an invitation to an eligible departmental meeting specifically noting the following: "Pursuant to Article IX.V of the CBA with UAW 7902, this meeting is eligible for departmental meeting pay," the invitation should also provide details of the meeting, as well as the link to an attendance reporting form.

Attendance will be tracked at the meeting, and Part-Time faculty should self-report their attendance via the PTF Departmental Meeting Attendance Reporting form (see form below. ). After attendance is verified by the College(s), payment will be submitted by the Provost's Office, and then reflected in a subsequent paycheck.

Please note: you must access this form via your New School email address.
