Student Payment Request Form
The Student Payment Request Form is used to request Student Prize/Award payments to current students. A copy of the award letter must be included with the request.
This form should be used for situations that require one single payment to the student. If more than one payment must be issued, please contact your local budget manager or AccountsPayableHelp@newschool.edu for assistance.
This form cannot be used to pay students for services rendered. Contact Human Resources at PayrollHelp@newschool.edu with questions.
Request a Student Payment
The Student Payment Request Form is available in My New Source under Finance & Accounting Forms.
The below information is required to complete the form:
- Student information, including N#, name, email, phone, and address
- Purpose/description of payment
- Copy of award or stipend letter
- Payment type - see Student Prize/Award for additional details
- Stipend: Taxable award/prize
- Award: Non-taxable award/prize...true award
- Fellowship: Typically for graduate students, a grant for education and research...not service-based
- Other
- Award date
- Payment amount
- Payment method - see AP Payment Types for additional details
- Check: Must provide student address for mailing of check
- ACH/Wire (additional charge applied): Available only to foreign students - justification for issuing to domestic students is required and will be reviewed by Accounts Payable; bank account information required
- Electronic Payment (e.g. Zelle): Available only to students with U.S. bank accounts and U.S. email addresses
Foreign National (Nonresident) Students
If the student is a foreign national, you must also provide copies of the W-8BEN and FNIC forms completed by the student with the Student Payment Request form.
Foreign students are not eligible for electronic payments unless they have a U.S. bank account and U.S. email address (email address cannot end in foreign extension such as ".au."). Foreign students are eligible for wire transfer of payment subjected to an additional charge which varies by bank.
Foreign students will be subject to a federal withholding tax rate up to 30% unless a treated exemption applies. The prize or award will be reported on Form 1042-S at year-end. A 1099-MISC will be sent for all U.S tax residents that are paid a total of $600.00 or more on a given tax year.
