Payroll FAQ
How do I tell if I am an hourly or salaried employee?
This information should be included in your Offer Letter from HR when you were hired, but is also listed as the payment "Frequency" when you View Compensation & Hourly Rate.
How do I see if I am eligible for overtime payment (nonexempt)?
Employees should refer to their offer letter and/or appointment letter for this information. Most salaried employees are exempt from overtime payment. See Work Hours and Categories for an overview of exempt/nonexempt status.
What are payroll deductions?
The university is required by law to deduct Social Security, Medicare, Federal, New York State, and New York City taxes, if applicable, withholding taxes from each employee's check as appropriate. You may also elect to withhold additional amounts from your paychecks. See Understanding Form W-2 and Manage Federal & State/Local Withholding Elections for additional information.
When will I be paid?
Most all employees are paid on a bi-weekly basis. If no payment election has been set up, a paper check will be mailed to the home address on file. See Payroll Schedule for detailed pay periods and Manage Direct Deposit & Payment Elections for instructions.
